The Codina Family
The Family
Armando Codina arrived from Cuba as a teenager and built one of Florida's largest privately held commercial real-estate firms. From a Coral Gables base, the firm built the office and industrial space of the Airport West submarket that became much of Doral — corporate parks, campuses, and later the conception of Downtown Doral. Codina is also known for civic and political ties, including a long business partnership with Jeb Bush, and the family business continues into the next generation as Codina Partners.
Why They Matter
The Codinas built the working Miami — the office parks and corporate campuses where the Latam Capital Era actually does business, as opposed to the glamorous beachfront or the residential skyline. They are the exile success story in commercial real estate, and a key reason Doral became a corporate base for Latin American trade.
Where You See Them Today
Doral's corporate landscape and Downtown Doral are the family's most visible works, and Codina Partners remains active in major Miami developments. The Codina name endures among the city's business dynasties.
