The Forge
What It Is
The Forge is a steakhouse on Arthur Godfrey Road in Miami Beach, set in a building whose restaurant history reaches back toward the mid-20th century and which was developed into its lavish form under longtime owner Alvin Malnik. The interior leaned into opulence — chandeliers, stained glass, art, and ornate dining rooms — and the restaurant became known for an extraordinarily deep wine cellar. Over the years it has been reinvented and renovated, but it has consistently functioned as a high-end steakhouse and a magnet for celebrities, athletes, politicians, and Miami Beach society.
Why It Matters
The Forge belongs to a particular Miami Beach archetype: the see-and-be-seen institution where the city's power brokers eat, deal, and feud. Like the great MiMo-era hotels, it sold atmosphere and status as much as food, and it accumulated the kind of glamour-and-scandal lore — famous brawls, mob whispers, marquee guests — that the city quietly cherishes. As a long-running society hub it offers a window into how Miami Beach's elite have socialized across generations, and how durable that appetite for spectacle and exclusivity has proven to be.
