TelevisaUnivision
What It Is
TelevisaUnivision is the largest Spanish-language media company, formed in 2022 through the combination of the U.S. broadcaster Univision and the content business of Mexico's Televisa. Univision had long built a significant production and corporate presence in the Miami area, and the combined company continues to anchor much of its U.S. operation there. Its output spans broadcast television, news, sports, entertainment, and streaming aimed at Spanish-speaking audiences.
Why It Matters
Miami functions as a media capital for the Spanish-speaking Americas, and TelevisaUnivision is the clearest expression of that role. The city became a base for producing and distributing programming consumed across Latin America and the U.S. Hispanic market, drawing on a deep local talent pool. Figures associated with that ecosystem, such as Don Francisco and Cristina Saralegui, helped define an era when Miami, not Mexico City or Los Angeles, became the hub for hemispheric Spanish-language television.
