Margulies Collection

What It Is

The Margulies Collection at the Warehouse holds the contemporary and photographic art amassed by Miami collector Martin Margulies, displayed in a large Wynwood warehouse converted for the scale of the work. The space is known for installations and sculpture too big for a conventional gallery. Admission proceeds and Margulies's own giving have long supported a local women's and children's homeless shelter, an unusual model among private collections.

Why It Matters

The Margulies Collection is one of the institutions that gave Wynwood credibility as an art district rather than just a wall of murals. Alongside the Rubells and others, Margulies helped turn a former garment-and-warehouse zone into the center of Miami's Art Basel era art scene, where private collectors opened their holdings to the public.
